When PC-ness goes too far

You've probably heard stuff in the news about people complaining about schools having Indian mascots and the like. How it's racist or whatever word they choose to use. The NCAA has been cracking down on this in particular, requiring schools to justify their use of such names/symbols/etc. Currently, they are giving a hard time to UNC-Pembroke, who are called the Braves and have an Indian in their logo.

UNCP is a traditionally American Indian college. It was created for American Indians. 20% of their students are still American Indian, and they are located smack dab in the middle of Lumbee Indian territory.

Ya think maybe they would have figured out by now if they are offended by their own name and logo?

A - Accent: Natively Southern, but varies depending on who I'm talking to.

E - Essential make-up: Well, none of it is essential, but if I'm only wearing one thing, it's probably blush.

I - Insomnia: Regularly

J - Job title: Reference/Periodicals Librarian and Library Coordinator

K - Kids: In an orphanage in China, waiting on us to come get her (well, she doesn't know that yet...)

L - Living arrangements: In my house with dear hubby, an assortment of cats, a dog and a fish

M - Mom's birthplace: Wadesboro, NC (where Color Purple was filmed)

N - Number of apples you've eaten: Not terribly many. Unless you count juice.

O - Overnight hospital stays: Tonsils, age 10

P - Phobia: Vomit. Did I really just say that on my blog? I've never admitted that to anyone before.

Q - Question you'd like answered: Why the hell does this library still not have heat?

R - Religious affiliation: Well, I sorta consider myself Methodist, but I go to Unitarian Universalist church, and my beliefs don't conform to any denomination, so...your guess is as good as mine!

S - Siblings: None, but in my 20s I found myself with 5 stepsiblings and 5 siblings-in-law. And now, increasingly, their spouses.

T - Time you wake up: 6:45

U - Unnatural hair colors you've worn: Caramel highlights is as colored as I've gotten

V - Vegetable you refuse to eat: Lots. Shorter list is which ones I will eat!

W - Worst habit: staying in bed too long in the morning

X - X-rays you've had: My reproductive system, and some part near my neck when I was 2, that they had to retake like 10 times to get right, and my Mom thinks that's why my thyroid gland stopped working

Y - Yummy foods you make: Cooking is not one of my stronger points. But I continually get asked for the recipe for my toffee bars. And I think I make some darned good Greek potatoes.
