The Friday Five

1. What was your first Halloween costume?
Either Wonder Woman (one of those plastic storebought dealies) or the Devil (that my grandma made), I don't remember which came first.

2. What was your best costume and why?
The handmade Devil costime rocked, it had a stuffed tail and horns and everything. The scarecrow costume was pretty cool too - Mom sewed straw into the cuffs of an old flannel shirt and old jeans, and around the brim of an old hat.

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat?
Nah. I was too chicken.

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.)
Well, growing up we did, my dad and I always carved a pumpkin together. There are still a few decorations I have from childhood that I still set out every year - Stuffed Pumpkin Man, Beanbag Ghost, a pumpkin pipe, and a wooden black cat.

5. Share your favorite scary story...real or legend!
Well, this is a funny story about a big scare. (We'll see if Brian remembers this!) One night when I was home for the summer during college, I had really bad nightmares - I was dreaming that someone/something was hiding in the darkness, and kept lunging at me, and every time it lunged I felt these seconds of absolute pure terror. To this day it's the worst nightmare I've ever had. I didn't tell anyone about them the next day. That evening I was on the phone long-distance to Brian, and Mom came in the room and made the "get off the phone" signal. I nodded and turned away, figuring on finishing the current line of conversation before hanging up. Well, Mom came into the room and walked up to the bed where I was stretched out, and she was making the "I'm gonna strangle you" sign with her hands. I didn't see her come in though - in fact, I didnt' notice her until she leaned over me and lunged towards me making the "strangle" sign. Well, that brought the nightmare to life, so to speak, and for just a second I felt that same sheer terror that I felt in the nightmare. The result was that I screamed like a banshee. This scared the crap out of my Mom, who also screamed and jumped back. My dad came running into the room, the phone's in the floor with Brian hollering into it asking what happened, Mom's looking at me like I'm possessed, and I'm sitting on the bed sobbing. Needless to say I had some explaining to do, LOL!

Happy (late) Birthday Grandma!

I just had to announce that on Saturday, my great-grandmother turned 99!!!

To catch up...Yard Sale Part 2 went well, not as well as the first one but of course all the best stuff got bought the first time around. :) The clogging performance went well, we danced for an hour so we were pretty dead by the time it was over! For the first two dances I was wearing a frilly traditional-style clogging dress with a crinoline, and during the second dance the elastic on the crinoline's waistband went. Somehow I kept it from falling all the way down, but I haven't seen the video yet to see how bad it looked. LOL! The grant is finished and was fedexed to the State Library office (Charlotte to Raleigh by way of Memphis, go figure. No wonder it costs so much.)

This weekend is a pet festival that of course we're manning a booth for, and yet another clogging performance at a Halloween festival thingie in Salisbury, for which I will be performing a dance that I learned over the phone last night. (No I'm not THAT good...it's a real easy dance.) I'm going to help Brian finish the cleaning and organizing of his shed, which he's been working on for weeks. The house is already clean, thanks to Brian, who had it looking great for me (complete with roses!) when I got home Monday. Oh, did I mention I was just in Hawaii for 12 days? :-) I will tell that story over the next week or so! Stay tuned!

The Friday Five

1. What vehicle do you drive?
A silver blue Saturn L200.

2. How long have you had it?

Since April.

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
Mmm, probably the sunroof. The interior thermostat is kinda cool, but it and I have very differing opinions of what a given temprerature feels like.

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?

The windshield squirters. They squirt a jet instead of a spray, and the wipers immediately wipe it away, meaning that parts of the windshield don't get cleaned - including the part right in front of my eyes.

5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?
Realistically, probably the same thing. With a hybrid engine once they're available. My fave "old car" is a 67 Mustang.
