Well, who'da thunk?
My own shoestore! :)
We grabbed this picture while we were visiting friends in Washington, DC. It was taken with my very cool new digital camera that Brian gave me for my birthday (along with some awesome signed books and a fabulous dinner!) And, since I was playing with the camera yesterday, my faithful readers (all 3 of you) get a tour of my office.
And here is my view (yes, those are train tracks and a major highway running through the middle of campus)
And finally, the reference desk, at which I still don't spend enough time, considering that "reference librarian" is a primary part of my job.
Enjoy! :)

By the way, just for the record, I posted the post below on Wednesday, and Blogger kindly decided not to publish it in spite of the fact that I hit the publish button. Thanks a farkin' lot.

Well well well.
So this is 30. Funny, doesn't feel any different than 29. I did have the random and rather odd thought this morning that in 10 years I'll be 40. That's a really weird feeling. But it doesn't bother me to be 30. Which I suppose is a good thing. No, the only thing that bothers me about this birthday is that my grandma's not around to see it. She would have been 73 Saturday, and we always celebrated our birthdays together. On the other hand, maybe it's just as well - having a granddaughter turning 30 would have made her feel extra-old. I can hear her griping about it now. :)
And speaking of griping, I'm stuck out at the desk listening to the library's FP (favorite patron - said with the utmost sarcasm), because they're cleaning the carpets in my office. I shouldn't gripe about that since hopefully they are getting the cat pee stains up (yes, cat pee - it's not just for home decor!) but at this time of year I pretty much have nothing to do that doesn't involve being in my office.
Oh well. My hubby is taking me out for a nice evening tonight, and I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully nothing will screw it up. (You know the most annoying thing about losing someone close to you? It's the persistent worry afterwards that something bad is going to happen to someone else, and/or that other things are going to go wrong. You know it's irrational but you can't help it. And it pisses me off. GRRRR!) And I intend to go home and practice with my new cool digital camera that he gave me. :-) Wheeeeee!!! I love you honey!

5 bicycles. 1000 miles. One cause.
I would like to draw your attention to an event taking place soon. On July 9, the president of Pfeiffer University and his wife, Chuck and Kris Ambrose, along with 3 friends, will begin a 1000-mile bike ride from Misenheimer, NC (home of Pfeiffer) to Boston. Their goal is to raise $100,000 for cancer research. There will be assorted events along the way, and details of their route are available on the Ride for the Ribbon website, as is the story (beginning with Kris's breast cancer) behind the ride. Please visit the site, and consider sponsoring them. It is a worthy cause, and they are worthy people.

OUCH!
Well, this is a new one. I've always been a klutz, but this is the first time I've cut my tongue licking the underside of the foil off a cup of yogurt. :(
