This story...
brings tears to my eyes. It's a step in the right direction.
After 25 years, maybe Toumazou will finally get to go home.

Happy Earth Day!
In honor of Earth Day, here are some simple, free things YOU can do to help the environment!
- Every click results in a donation to rainforest conservation at The Rainforest Site.
- Take the Green Ribbon Pledge to save energy. This site even tells you how much these simple things will save!
- "Click to donate" to numerous ecological causes at the Ecology Fund.
- Send your next e-card from E-cards and help the World Wildlife Fund and the Nature Conservancy.
- Visit the Earth Day Network's Action Pages for more than you can do.
Every little thing and every single person helps. Let's make this a better world for our kids and grandkids!

Peeps are invading libraries!
This link just brightened up an otherwise dreary, rainy (AGAIN!), lonely day.

Hockey weirdness
It's strange enough that the WHA is trying to revive itself to compete with the NHL. It's strange enough that the 'Canes went from the Cup finals last season to the bottom of the standings this season. But now the Wings have been swept in the first round of the playoffs...by ANAHEIM! What's the hockey world a-comin' to???
I think I'm gonna go watch some baseball.

YAY
Brian got us reservations for a 4-day weekend at Sunset Beach in May. I can't put into words how much I'm looking forward to this...
In the meantime, hopefully the rain will stay away so we can do some caching this weekend. (That and some garden weeding. My irises are blooming nicely, but they're going to get strangled if I don't weed soon.) Anything but conferencing tho! ACRL was excellent, but I've had my fill of the conference thing for a while. Time for a weekend to relax, do something for ME, have some fun. And mourn the fact that Brian is going to be out of town all next week. Oh well, at least there's email and phones.

Stupid Library Tricks
OK, so a student comes in and needs the origin of the word fear. No problem, I think, Oxford English Dictionary. No, he has to write a *3-4 page paper* on the origin of the word fear. !?!?!?!?! Amazingly enough, I actually found a citation for an article about that precise subject...in Lithuanian Quarterly Journal in 1983. The even more amazing part? I found the full text of the article online. Yes, in English. St. Jerome is with me tonight, that's fer sure.
