Yeah, I know...
The new header needs work, but I don't have access to my usual tools. Deal with it until I get my computer back. :-)

Assorted updates
StarKist's albacore tuna lunch kit sucks. The regular lunch kits are good, or were last time I had one. You mix the mayo and relish with the tuna to form kind of a tuna paste, spread it on the crackers, and voila, nice lunch. The albacore one had the tuna in those pouches, which is yucky dry. And it was in big chunks, so you couldn't mix the mayo in with it. You wound up with big chunks of tuna to put on the cracker, and the chunks fell off. Plus, the crackers were Ritz-type instead of the nice wheat ones. Even the mint that came with it wasn't all that good. Verdict: just make a tuna sandwich instead!
For anyone wondering, no, we didn't get snow. We got an inch and a half of sleet. But I got a day off work because of it, so I'm not complaining! I'd still like to have one more good snow, since I missed the one in January. I'm not holding my breath though.
Our idiot foster cat, Midnight, seems to have developed a personal vendetta against kitchen scrubbers. We have to hide them under the sink or he pulls them in the floor and destroys them. Go figure!

Save the Florida State Library
Dubya's idiot brother wants to get rid of the State Library of Florida. Sign a petition against this ludicrousity. (Is that a word? If not it should be!)
I just typed ludicrousity into dictionary.com to see if it's a word. Nope. But these are its suggestions for what I meant to type. "WTF" just doesn't do it justice:
ladies' room, ladies'-eardrop, ladies'-eardrops, lady crab, lady's earrings, lady's-eardrop, lady's-eardrops, Late Greek, latticework, law degree, lead carbonate, lead chromate, ledger, ledger board, ledger entry, ledger line, ledger paper, Lithocarpus, Lithocarpus densiflorus, Lithocarpus glaber, Lithocarpus glabra, lithograph, lithograph machine, lithographer, lithographic, lithography, Litocranius, Litocranius walleri, lodger, Lotus corniculatus, ludicrous, ludicrously

Poets Against the War
Links like this are why I love librarian.net. I haven't read any of the poems yet, but there's bound to be some great ones in there.

Shop and support libraries & charities
Did you know that some libraries have agreements with online booksellers such that if you visit the bookseller through the library's link, a percentage of your purchase benefits the library (often their Friends of the Library organization)? Here is a list of libraries with these programs, complete with links. Most involve Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
And did you know that many grocery stores offer similar deals if you shop with their discount card? In Food Lion's case, you link your MVP card to the charitable organization of your choice. Food Lion will donate a percentage of your purchase to that organization, up to $350 per organization every 3 months. You can link up online or by filling out a form at the store. Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie also have such programs, and others probably do too. My MVP card is, of course, linked to Cabarrus Pets Society. A few seconds of my time, and the society benefits every time I go grocery shopping - what easier way is there to help?

iMac, RIP
Friday night, my computer started making sounds like a bug zapper. Predictably, this was followed by the computer behaving rather like a bug in a bug zapper, namely dying. So, I'm awaiting repair by the Superhubby of Computers. Said repair is going to involve putting my computer's guts in a new, nonfitting case and hooking up a new monitor. May my trusty Bondi-blue Rev A iMac rest in peace. Along with my glasses and all the car parts that broke last week. GRRR!!!!!
Limited blog updates til it's fixed, most likely. (Yeah. Like I post abundant blog updates now. Hey, I'm getting better at least!)
In other news, Brian and I are officially Active Citizens (tm). We are now on the board of the Pets Society. I am in charge of PR, which means I need to get my butt in gear and email Sam about the details of corresponding with the paper, since those details are presently stuck on my dead computer. Going to do that now.

Who knew?
I am quite used to getting the "feed me NOW" look from the cats. I'm used to getting the "feed me NOW" look from the dog. I'm even used to getting the "feed me NOW" look from the chickens on occasion. But never would I have thought that it was possible to get the "feed me NOW" look from a FISH. Shows what I know. Obviously Sushi fits in with the rest of the menagerie just fine. And fish, at least Bettas, appear to be smarter than people give them credit for. And I promise that Sushi will get his dinner on time tonight...
