Fun with hypothermia!
Well, I'm still cold over an hour later, but I just had a ball. Yours truly just completed her first dance performance in a couple of years (and her first clogging performance in 7 or so years) in a local Christmas parade. I had forgotten how much I love both clogging and performing. It went great. Although it's hard to dance on a moving platform, especially when you're facing backwards! Of course the temperature dropped 15 degrees today just for us in our skirts and turtlenecks. But it was worth it. :)

Students who will NOT make it in the real world
Last Thursday one of our work-studies (who we had had problems with already because of bad work) left 2 hours early without telling anyone. Needless to say, when she came in to work today, her supervisor and the librarian on duty that night called her back to the office to speak with her about this infraction and give her a verbal warning. Result: the entire library staff heard her inform them that she left because it wasn't busy, and it was just the library and it wasn't important, and we are a bunch of pricks and she's not coming back. Also needless to say, she is no longer employed at the library and has been reported to the work-study office. (I don't know if they can prevent her from seeking another job or not, but I hope so.)
She's a senior. I wouldn't put it past her to be dumb enough to list this job on her resume. I hope a prospective employer calls for a reference. :-)

Random thoughts of the day
Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets was great. Excellent effects, excellent acting, all around good movie. Go see it!
The Checkers game last night was pretty good too. We have talent this year, if we can get the motivation and consistency going, we'll go far. Takahito Suzuki is awesome.
Brian totally revamped and improved the Pets Society's webpage. Go check it out! He did a great job. And that's our Jack in the header! (Along with Gink, may she rest in peace.)

What would Jesus drive?
Normally I prefer people to keep their religion to themselves, but I kinda like this one. They do have a point! Now, if we can get them to do HOW would Jesus drive...

...and I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me...
-Lee Greenwood
Today is Veteran's Day. Most Americans will, as usual, either not notice it, or spend the day griping that the mail doesn't run/banks are closed/etc. I personally think EVERYTHING should be closed, and we should all have to spend the day at home with loved ones (being grateful that they are with us instead of dead in a war) and the TV networks should show nothing but movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Platoon all day long. Something to drill into people's heads how horrible war is, and how much of a sacrifice it was to each and every veteran to go fight - and how much more of a sacrifice it was for the families of those who didn't come home. And how much we should appreciate them and the freedom they fought for. Even those like my father, who fought in a war he didn't agree with only because they made him, fought for our freedom, because he did what his country asked him to do. And even when America does stupid shit it's still the land of the free. God bless our veterans.

WHEW!
Six years and four months ago, there was a July 4 cookout. It included my parents, both sets of my grandparents, and me & Brian. That was the last time that particular group was together, as my parents split before the end of the month. Tonight, I hosted a reunion of sorts, as my mother & stepfather and both sets of grandparents came over. It was the first time since that July 4 that Mom & her folks had seen my dad's parents. It was also the first time any of them had seen our house since all the renovations. Needless to say, this evening was a big deal to me in more than one way.
We've spent the last week and a half cleaning and straightening the house, finishing up last minute bits, etc. Brian has been so wonderful, he went way beyond the call of duty. (Thanks again hon!) We finished up about 45 minutes before they all arrived. I have to say, the house hasn't looked this good in a LONG time!
Fortunately, the evening went well. Everyone liked the renovations, and importantly, no one seemed uncomfortable. You never know in a situation like that, even though they'd all said they wanted to see each other again (it was their idea!) it's still weird. Probably for Mom more than anyone. But everyone got along fine, played catchup, and it didn't feel as weird as I expected having them all together again. I mean, on the one hand, it was almost like old times, except Steve was there instead of Daddy. But it wasn't quite. But it was good. And I was happy.

Grrrrrr
My throat hurts, I'm living with Kleenex, my voice sounds horrible, I'm coughing, and I wake up a zillion times a night snorting and drooling. Yes, I got a sinus infection from the flu that I got from the flu shot. So ultimately, my $6 shot designed to keep me from missing work from the flu, cost $40 in copays & medicine, and about two days of missed work if you total it up. (One full day, one half day, and lots of coming in late because I couldn't function until the morning decongestant kicked in.) Economically, this failed miserably!
