On our way
We actually, for probably the first time in our adult lives, did everything right this morning. We rose on time, finished our few little chores around the house, and left within three minutes of our target time, forgetting nothing that we've needed thus far. We dropped the dog at the kennel, got breakfast, picked up some travel-size shave cream at CVS, and made it to Dad's within fifteen minutes of our schedule.
Fortunately, we'd allowed extra time to get to the airport. We arrived there right on schedule. Thanks to NWA's online check-ins, we had a minimal wait at the desk. The largest delay was...wait for it...the useless TSA checkpoint that had a line 35-40 people deep and one scanning station running.
Figures, dunnit?
So at the moment, we're sitting at Gate A6, having called our respective parents, and said our goodbyes to Dad at the front door (thanks again for driving and storing the VUE, Pop!). We picked up a few Charlotte postcards to add to the gift bags, and we're now just waiting for our plane to arrive.
By the way, last night they offered to bump us to first class on the Charlotte-Detroit leg for $50 each. Does the phrase “all over that like bees on honey” convey the general tenor of our response? I thought so.
At this point, we're feeling pretty relaxed. We've done all the hard work, and our travel is underway. From here on in, we're basically in someone else's hands the whole way. Which actually has a few worrying aspects, but none worth giving any time right now.
We're coming Emma -- for real this time. Be good. Mama and Daddy will be there in just a few days.
