« Meet Emma (Cen Xiao Kun)! | Main | Wait in line 'til your time »

May 11, 2005

I didn't think I'd find you perfect in so many ways.

Pardon me for borrowing Wil Wheaton's tactic of naming his posts with lyrics. This is the most difficult wait of all.

Someone in China has my daughter. Granted, they're apparently taking good care of her, but she needs to be home. Yesterday.

Of course, there's plenty going on here to keep us busy. The spring has been damp of late, so the yard always need cutting and trimming. Andy's attempt to cash in SkyMiles with Dull-ta Airlines was a bust, which left us with several large and unexpected expenses (thanks to the State Employees' Credit Union, though, we're covered). Just last night, I converted Lara's dinosaur-lamp-bookcase to a Pooh-lamp-bookcase, which looks pretty good.

Anything to stay busy, I guess.

We're making plans to travel now, even before we have the date. We'll be flying Northwest, using their special adoption fares. (A brief note to any Northwest Airlines employee who might see this...reconsider your URL! To anyone in their thirties, and a few in their twenties, “NWA” emphatically does not stand for Northwest Airlines.)

We've got plans in place for light packing, relying on the local laundries to help keep the road dirt out of the clothes. Technology-wise, we're set up with Skype for calls, iChat for videoconferences (yay Tiger!), ecto to handle the blogs (presuming they aren't blocked from China), and my PSP and iPod for entertainment.

We are also still trying to learn a smattering of Chinese. And hoping, hoping to hear something soon. Last week would have been nice. Monday wouldn't have been bad either. Now it's looking a lot like next week.

It's all kind of immaterial, though. Every time I pull out my wallet and look at that picture of the little girl who will call me Daddy (and I do so a stupid number of times each day), I fall in love all over again. It's like I've waited a lifetime to see that little face, never knowing that it was missing from my life. If I have to wait a few more days, so be it.
