Meet Emma (Cen Xiao Kun)!

Last night was a little rough. We both sat up until about midnight, looking for excuses to do anything other than go to bed. As if that might make the night pass more easily. Lots of reading about Jiangxi Province. Ordering books from Barnes & Noble. The usual amount of playing games to the point of distraction.

As with Christmas Eve, though, staying awake only makes it take longer. We knocked off and tried -- with varying degrees of success -- to sleep. This morning was more "Keep your mind off it!" activities. Clean up. Vacuum the carpets. Read the paper. Eat breakfast. Play more games. Read websites.

At about 9am, the phone rang. My stomach did a backflip, until Lara answered and told me it was the cable company's automated message system. Dammit.

Around 10:15, though, Jack set up a ruckus outside, and we heard a truck backing up the driveway (which is an accomplishment all by itself). Bruce the FedEx Man appeared from the passenger side door, looking really, really casual and relaxed for a guy who was about to drop a life-changing bomb on two otherwise normal people. Handing over the package, he asked for my signature and cracked "Wow, must be something really important if both of you are out here to get it." Lara told him what it was.

"Yeah, I've delivered several of those over the years. Congratulations!"

And with that, he was gone...and we were a little closer (no, a lot closer) to being Mom & Dad. Kristen was right -- opening the envelope was really a little anticlimactic, compared to actually hearing her name. Weird.

Well, here's what was in the packet:

Emma's "mugshot." Probably one of the least attractive pictures of her we'll ever have, taken at about 7 months. Still a cute kid.

Okay, looking a little better. Another one from around the same time.

Aha! Now there's a cute kid! We're not sure, but we think this was taken relatively recently.

For those of you who are interested, we also have her medical report and growth prognosis. Have a peek at the latter -- Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. The former we're not posting, for obvious reasons. Let's just say she's healthy. She's about 14 lbs. at 2 feet. We expect her to be around 17 lbs. when we adopt her, at about 2'5". A little smaller than average, just like her Mama.

What's next? Entirely too much, that's what -- starting with a call to the agency in about 15 minutes to get the ball rolling. Visas, travel approvals, flight reservations, packing, travel, finishing the house. Here we go!
