Holy Moly!!!
We got our I-171H yesterday!!!!! In layman's terms, that means the Department of Homeland Security has deemed us to be acceptable parents. We didn't expect this for another month or so, so needless to say we were shocked and thrilled to get it. This weekend we will get the rest of our paperwork together, take the required pictures of us in our house, and on Tuesday send one last (hopefully!) batch of stuff to CAWLI. If all goes well, we could be DTC by the end of September or beginning of October. Wow!
And I set up a baby registry at Babies-R-Us tonight. It only has one thing on it so far (a hip sling carrier - I don't like the idea of a back carrier because I can't see the baby, and I know a front carrier would kill my back) but I guess that means this is really happening, huh? We also picked up 2 books at Target today - One is called "It's OK to Be Different" and the other is "The Family Book". They have really cool, colorful artwork and the concept is so perfect. The first book says things like "It's OK to be a different color", "It's OK to have wheels" (kids in wheelchairs), "It's OK to be adopted." The family book is on the same level, talking exclusively about families: "Some families look alike. Some families look different." It also mentions adoption. Really cool books.
