One word that can change your life
A couple of days ago, we got that one word. APPROVED!
Yes, a lot has happened since the last update here. We apologize for the delay; Brian has been busy as hell with the home renovations (I'll let him relate that saga himself) and I was out of town for two weeks, and have been otherwise busy since. So, a quick recap:
We had the remaining meetings with our social worker. Lots of intimate details about childhood, our marriage, and other things that it is quite odd to be telling a complete stranger about. We received some glowing letters of reference (thanks everyone!) We signed lots of pieces of paper for CAWLI. We had second doctor's visits, as CAWLI requires a different and more detailed medical form than Mandala. We can now happily state that we are HIV-negative. We are actually nearing the end of the paperchase...we lack the medical forms (which we need to pick up from the doctor), an employment verification letter from Pfeiffer (the HR person is out of the office until August), and the required pictures of us and our home. Tomorrow we go get fingerprinted again, this time for the CIS.
But we have that one word...APPROVED. Our homestudy is complete and official. This is of course only the state approval...we still have to get approved by the CIS (thus the fingerprinting) and then of course by China. But this is the biggie. This is the one that you worry about, even though you know there is no reason why you shouldn't be approved. You worry anyway - maybe it's the effect of having a social worker ask so many probing questions! (For the record, we really liked our SW and hope to also get her to do our post-adoption followup.)
APPROVED. A beautiful word. Now we can start getting excited!
For the record, since this is my first posting here, I'd like to thank all of our family and friends for the support you are giving us. You're all awesome!
